  • Ooo i dig this commenting disqus deal
  • Hey Rob, this sounds like a really fun idea. I guess I would expect it it mostly be online, maybe a forum/online discussions, with something like bi-monthly "real world" meetings.
  • Yeah, that sounds like it might work. I'm wondering about forums, though. Any suggestions on easily managed, not easily hacked ones? I've used bbpress, smf, and phpbb. all have positives and negatives.

    Thoughts?
  • I've also used Vanilla, which can be integrated with WordPress fairly easily.

I guess the big question as far as needing/wanting a Forum as part of the site, is what value will it provide over what's already present on other sites?
  • Hey, Brandon, if you'd like to mess about with the db tables and such to integrate Vanilla, please let me know. I gave it a try and ended up having to re-install.
  • Brandon
Yeah, if you want to give me access, I can take a look at it, or here's the link to the guide that I've used to integrate Vanilla with WordPress before: http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:int...

You don't have to modify the database directly, just some of the Vanilla configuration, to use the WordPress user table instead of its' own.
  • yeah, that's the link I used before. i got all of the config files modified, i thought, and added the sql commands to the wp tables and etc. still borked it. You're welcome to try. email roblef@gmail.com and I'll set you up an ftp account and get you db privs.
  • I guess the only value I see is a way for us to connect locally, rather than
nationally. So, basically, the same value a local user group provides,
    spread to the online world.
  • @roblet - Glad you have jumped in on this. I'm looking forward to seeing how http://ww.akpug.org goes!
  • Cool. Glad you're here. I guess we need to see how folks would like to organize. Real life meetings? Online Discussions? Forums? Membership/Fees? Dunno.
  • I love comments
